So, what’s more hip-hop than spontaneous cyphers?
That’s rhetorical…
To kick off the end off this blog’s first week, it is time to introduce you to a man who has been holding it down for Allston, and hip hop in general, for a long time.
Meet Madness 2012 and one of his many projects, “Cypher Series”.
Along with working at the Allston Cafe (go there, now), and organizing shows at the infamous Unit 11, Madness also films MC’s freestyling every chance he gets. Whether it be after or before shows, during parties, or even random sessions on the street, he is known to whip out a camera, a nasty beat box, a verse or two, or, if you’re lucky, he might do all those things while toting a didgeridoo (or harmonica).
The art and aura of freestyling, MC’s being put on the spot, beatboxing, and handclaps, helps perpetuate the local scene, and the global essence of hip hop.
Check out his catalog of sessions at his “Cypher Series” youtube channel, here.
Enjoy, and practice your off the domes!
Till next time,
